Oh, I'm sorry. I thought that everyone was aware that the bird is the word.

But just in case you haven't this should enlighten you

Oh, and on the very rare occasion that the bird is not the word then Grease fills in as the word proxy. Wink

So Achilles, would you say that Fallout3 is even better than Wrath of the Lich King? I'm tempted to get it but don't really have much time to play pc games these days. Also, disconnected my wow account a while back to prove to my missus I could go without it and just haven't really picked it up again since.

JR- I'm telling you Fallout 3 might be the best video game of all time.

Smile

Seriously.

Cool. I know at least one thing I'll be adding to my Christmas wish list then.

So is it just a FPS? Or is there more to it? Is there Multi player action?

It is a compelling story set in an atmosphere very like the first two titles... complete with the Ink Spots 'I don't want to set the world on fire' and like songs.

The game takes place in Washington D.C. after a major nuclear war has pretty much destroyed the earth. The alternate history is basically that technological advances after WWII were gained at a much faster pace, but culturally the US still was very like the 1950's- even 200 years later.

However, at that time a major war broke out, and China and the US and perhaps some other nations all bombed the crap out of each other, and the only normal survivors were the ones that were lucky enough to have purchased space in the underground Vault-Tec vaults. You are one of those survivors. Now, many generations have passed within the vaults and some folks have actually started moving back above ground.

The Capitol Wasteland, as D.C. is now called, is a very dead but very vibrant place now. This is essentially Oblivion engine BUT, the story and character development and skills are SO much better. Combat is better, in my opinion as well, thanks to a new take on an old Fallout concept, the VATS system (a very elegant, kick-ass bullet-time like concept).

It is technically a FPS, but it is heavy on character development, story development, RP, and some tactical combat with VATS (kind of pauses the action for placed shots on different body parts.) So, for instance, 2 super mutants might be headed toward me... one with a baseball bat, and the other with a missile launcher... on the first, i'll aim for the head to drop him, and on the seconde, i'll try to knock the launcher out of his hands- both with a well-placed shot in VATS. If you want, however, you can just do pure real-time FPS, but you'd be missing out on awesomeness.

Play it for:
1- the story
2- the immersion of this alternate reality
3- the character development
4- the combat
5- the loot

Mmm, sounds quite interesting. Are you playing it on PC or console? I ask because I have heard that unless your sporting a beast of a PC it isn't anywhere near as good as a console version.

I just so happen to have bought my first PC in 6 years, so I have a high-mid range system.

It runs like butter.

Console and PC are exactly the same, but PC (like other Bethesda goodness) will have the user content eventually.

Achilles...you forgot reason number 6 for picking it up..

-Eyeballs/brain matter going all gooshy as a rifle round slams into someone's skull, cleanly decapitating your target of choice.

Twisted Evil

Fallout 3 the few things I do not like .. its not the best fps. Player movement is a slow game gun is not so great. ya enemies close quickly, and weapons load slowly, but the game is more direct in RPG and crockery.
