I need some advice on video eqpt. I am planning on moving to Arkansas when I retire early next year. My buddy who is a fishing guide there wants to make some quality videos to post on his website, plus has some interest from tackle makers who fish with him, in possibly sponsoring an outdoor television show featuring the fishing that is available in the Arkansas/Missouri/Tennessee area. I posted some of the videos he shot on my Arkansas vacation thread. They are ok, but I want to go to the next level with quality gear. The plan is for me to follow him in another boat and shoot fishing videos to submit to fishing tackle makers promoting their lures, rods, etc. to get them to pay for our traveling all over the Southern United States and basically doing what we love doing. It's a long shot, but what the Hey, you only go around once. I'm gonna go online and read reviews on equp, but if anyone has advice on cameras, softwear, websites, etc. on this kind of thing, it would be appreciated. _________________ Oye Como Va, Mi Ritmo, bueono pa' gozar, mulata
It really comes down to selecting a brand that you're comfortable with.....You use Canon for your still shots. The one thing that I am liking about video cams, is that there are no more tapes, cards, etc......Internal storage, and HiDef seems to be the way to go.....The sound is superb on the latest models, and the video is SERIOUSLY AWESOME !!!!...Look to Canon, Sony, and the new Blu-ray from Hitachi (coming soon) camcorders.....Those are the three names to watch. !!!......JVC is also one to watch, but they're a bit slow getting up to speed.....Good luck on your quest.....Keep us posted.
Ever since you posted this in late August, I have been looking to upgrade my 1998 Sony (Hi8) camcorder......I'm torn between several brands....Sony, Canon, Sanyo, and Samsung all have excellent cams out now......They're all HD with internal memory, and I'm having a seriously hard time deciding which one to get......I DO know that I want Sony Vegas and Adobe After Effects for post editing software.....They're a bit pricey, so I'll probably go for the Sony first......If I decide I dig it, (which I think I will), I'll spring for Adobe After Effects.....I already enjoy Adobe Photoshop, so I know I'm going to love doing stuff like this !!
There are SEVERAL more examples of what these programs can do....Just search YouTube for Sony Vegas and Adobe After Effects......The slow motion effects would certainly make a large mouth Bass breaking the surface of the water way more interesting.

Sometimes (ALTHOUGH RARELY) being an old fart is a good thing. When I made 35 years on the job, I was givin a catalogue with a list of prizes I could pick from. Lo and behold one was a Sony DCR-HC62 Cam Corder. Just got it in. After I get the basics down, I can't wait to get into the special effects thing. Any suggestions where I can go on the web to get started. Softwear suggestions, and tutorial sites would be greatly appreciated. _________________ Oye Como Va, Mi Ritmo, bueono pa' gozar, mulata
Adobe After Effects CS4 is probably the best out there now..It's very expensive, and takes a while to get the hang of....Sony Vegas is decent, but also costs quite a bit..I hear it's easier to use, but I have never tried it...To get started, I would suggest Pinnacle Studio 12 Ultimate....It's very user friendly, and only costs $129.00 at Best Buy...It even comes with a green screen in the box..That means you can have an invisibility cloak too.
There are plenty of one click special effects built in, and several plugins available for purchase....It's the one program I find myself using most for video.
Videocopilot has excellent tutorials for the Adobe program....YouTube has some great tutorials for Pinnacle Studio Ultimate (all versions).
For other fun stuff, check out Particle Illusion 3.0, and FX Lab Pro...They all have free trial versions available....I honestly think you'll enjoy Pinnacle Studio 12 Ultimate....It's Windows Movie Maker on steroids !
