The battery to my camera was put in backwards, and the cover was then forced closed. it's bulging in the middle, but won't budge open. How do I pry the battery cover open without breaking either it or my camera?

Since you mention it's bulging, I would first try to insert a flat, thin object inside to try and trigger the release mechanism. Maybe the file on a nail clipper would be a good tool. I once had a camera that was a result of bad design. The battery barely fit, and I ALWAYS had to fiddle with it for a bit to get it open..Other than that, I dunno...On another note...A broken/missing lid won't normally render a camera useless, as the batteries usually have their own locking notch inside....If it does break, I understand rubber bands work pretty well in these cases...Good luck ! Cool

Update: it's fixed.
Other update: laptop crashed, lost some data. Looks like that book I'm working on has been set back.

Would you be interested in trying to recover your lost data using Linux recovery tools? It would mean some effort on your part but won't cost you anything apart from time, some downloading from the internet, and a CD/DVD or USB flashdrive/memory stick.

Let me know.

Also, I can't guarantee it will work but it's worth a try if the data is important.
